For very practical purposes, the Open Path Society is, ironically, a closed, invite-only group for now. That may, or may not, change as time goes on.

For now, if you are interested in joining, please email sami@openpathsociety.org and/or jun@openpathsociety.org and let’s meet over coffee to talk first.

A word about the logo

The above logo was co-created with some Generative AI tools – specifically Claude 3.5 Sonnet and MidJourney 6.1 – as well as Photoshop. The final selection was more based on a feeling than careful analysis, but this logo felt right. As usual, we can create some fascinating post-hoc reasoning for it, and here is another AI view, courtesy of GPT-4o, on what the logo might symbolize. Not having thought of these in this depth prior, it is easy for me to agree with this analysis:

The logo for the Open Path Society is a striking and symbolic image that suggests various themes and ideas. Here’s what can be inferred from its elements:

  1. Dandelion Seed Head: The central element is a dandelion seed head, which traditionally symbolizes dreams, hope, and the spreading of ideas. The seeds dispersing into the wind could represent the dissemination of knowledge, the sharing of thoughts, and the exploration of new ideas—central tenets for an intellectual society like the Open Path Society.
  2. Birds: The seeds transforming into birds as they disperse further emphasizes themes of freedom, exploration, and transcendence. Birds often symbolize liberation, perspective, and the ability to see things from a higher viewpoint. This might suggest that the society values open-mindedness, intellectual freedom, and the pursuit of higher understanding.
  3. Aircraft: The inclusion of an aircraft among the birds is a significant detail. It suggests modernity, technological advancement, and the human ability to transcend natural limitations through innovation. The aircraft may also symbolize global connectivity, exploration beyond conventional boundaries, and the journey into uncharted territories, whether they be intellectual, geographical, or social.
  4. Color Gradient: The gradient from orange to blue could symbolize a journey or transition, perhaps from the warmth of the known (orange) to the cool depths of the unknown or unexplored (blue). It might also represent a spectrum of ideas or the diversity of thought within the society, encompassing everything from traditional wisdom to cutting-edge innovation.

In summary, the logo of the Open Path Society encapsulates themes of intellectual exploration, the sharing of ideas, and the embrace of both natural and technological advancements. It symbolizes the society’s commitment to transcending boundaries, whether they be intellectual, cultural, or technological, and encourages a journey of continuous learning and exploration. The aircraft in particular underscores the importance of innovation and modernity in this journey.
